HMPC Church Entrance
Our church entrance is once again graced by a beautiful reflection of the season, thanks to the hard work and creative artistry of Linda Latham. She takes care of the urns on the front porch, keeping them filled with seasonal floral arrangements and making our church entrance welcoming 365 days of the year. Linda also takes care of the church sanctuary during the Thanksgiving, Advent, Christmas, Lent and Easter church seasons. She is a true steward of HMPC and we thank her for her commitment!

“Let Your Faith Grow” Planting Campaign
Back in early 2015, HMPC undertook a complete property restoration including newly paved road, parking lot, sidewalks and lighting, just to name a few of the upgrades. We were required by the town to plant hundreds of trees throughout the church property. We offered our church members and friends the “Let Your Faith Grow” campaign, whereby anyone could purchase a tree to honor or memorialize a loved one, or to celebrate a birthday or special anniversary. Each tree would become a named tree, to include such markings to reflect the buyer or honored individuals. The leadership of the church would like to remind you that trees are still available for purchase. Landscape seating benches are also available. The purchase of any tree or bench includes a dedication plaque. Designed for every budget, this fundraiser allows you to help keep our property green, beautiful and growing into the future! Please contact Pastor Lou or the church office at 201-891-0511 for more information.
Memorial Garden Work Day
We will be working on the Memorial Garden on October 17th and then again November 28th. If anyone would like to help out, we meet at around 9AM and appreciate volunteers. Please bring gardening gloves and tools.
Bible Study Reminder
Please note that the Tuesday Evening, 10/17, and Wednesday Morning, 10/18, Bible Studies have been canceled this week due to Presbytery meetings for Pastor Lou.
Faithworks
This lesson is about praise and worship. It’s found on Psalm 99:3 ” Let them praise your great and awesome name. Holy is he!” We will define the concepts of praise and worship and will make a list on ways to praise God. The list is probably endless but will include dancing, instruments, singing, appreciating nature, caring for others, praying, doing good, arts and crafts, trying your best, doing good in school. We will get “hands on worship” through drawing while listening to worship music to illustrate our thoughts and feelings. I’m excited about exposing the children to the freedom in worship and its rewards. I pray the children’s heart’s will be touched and that they feel confident in knowing and expressing their praise and worship in numerous ways.
Pot Luck Luncheon
Please join us for a Pot Luck Luncheon on November 19th, Stewardship Sunday, during Hospitality. Please bring enough for yourself and to share with six other people. Watch for more information!
Thanksgiving Food Collection November 12
Our annual Thanksgiving food collection for Center for Food Action will be received November 12. Individual bags with list of requested items will be distributed after worship beginning October 22. Please do not donate refrigerated items or glass containers. CFA will be providing more than 3,000 families with food for the holiday. Coalition of Immokalee Workers Founder Greg Asbed Receives MacArthur Fellowship
Twenty four individuals were recently named as the 2017 MacArthur Fellows, often referred to as the “genius grant”. Each has been selected for having “shown extraordinary originality and dedication in their creative pursuits and a marked capacity for self-direction” and each receives a $625,000 award “as an investment in their potential”, paid over five years with no strings attached. The Coalition of Immokalee Workers was founded in 1993 by Greg Asbed, Lucas Benitez and Laura Germino to redress injustices in the Florida tomato industry, including forced labor, sexual assault and wage theft. Asbed was the principal architect of the Fair Food Program, which oversees payment of a penny a pound additional paid to workers by large food companies, as well as compelling growers to improve farmworkers’ working conditions. His development of worker-driven social responsibility is now being used by workforces with other crops in Florida, as well as the garment industry in Bangladesh and the dairy industry in Vermont.
Sunday Servers
One great way you can help HMPC is through your Stewardship of Time. By volunteering once a year, once a quarter or once a month, as a Greeter, Reader, or Hospitality person, you keep our Worship service and spirit of community going! These jobs are super easy and if you would like to try one, please call church office at 201-891-0511.
