Easter Sunday April 16

We invite our members and friends and anyone who wants to be a part of a church family to join here on April 16 at 10AM for the Worship celebration of the Resurrection of Christ. Everyone is welcome!

OGHS 2017

The Christian season of Lent is marked with fasting, a traditional practice of giving up food and devoting yourself to prayer.  But this isn’t the only type of fasting the Bible talks about.  Isaiah 58 describes a new kind of fast, not to give up bread, but to SHARE it. Isaiah calls us to SHARE bread with the hungry.  We are called to offer help to those in need. One way to answer that call is through our gifts to the One

Great Hour of Sharing (OGHS).  We will join with congregations all over the country as we seek answers to God’s call.  We can make a difference in the lines of many, many families.  Please join with us and watch for information to follow.

Walk In Dinner

Our Church will host our annual Pasta Dinner for the homeless at the Iglesia

Presbyteriana Chuch in Paterson on April 29.  We will serve them again on September 30.  There are sign-up

sheets in the Narthex to make a pasta dish (recipe and aluminum pans will be provided.)  Also, would you be willing to help serve?  We fed about 130

homeless people last year and I’m sure we will do the same again this year.  The Mission Team thanks you

for your help and we thank you for those that we will be serving.

Ḟaithworks

This Sunday is Palm Sunday. There will be a petting zoo for everyone to enjoy beginning at 9: 45 am. Then, we will join in the Palm Procession into the church. Following worship service, from 11 am to 12 noon, we will have our annual Easter Egg Hunt. Younger children (pre-K to 1st grade) will be invited to go first. Then, the older children (2nd grade up) will join in last. Palm Sunday promises to be a fun day that we don’t want to miss.  Festivities begin at 9:45AM. There is no Faithworks time (church school) this Sunday. After the time of conversation with the pastor in worship, all children and youth are invited outdoors to enjoy the petting zoo on the great lawn.

Palm Sunday marks the end of the Lent Season and the beginning of Holy Week. Jesus and the disciples travelled to Jerusalem to observe the festival of Passover. When they reached the outskirts of the city, Jesus asked the disciples to bring a donkey and a colt to him so Jesus could ride it into the city. As Jesus rode into Jerusalem, a parade of people threw their coats and branches from nearby trees onto the path to pave the way for Jesus. They shouted “Hosanna!” This was the crowd’s way of praising Jesus as a special prophet of God. Holy Week is a sacred and quiet week in our faith when we remember Jesus’ last days. The focus Bible reading for Palm Sunday in Matthew 21:1-11 and 26:14-27:66 offers an opportunity for children and youth to explore some of the events and challenges faced by Jesus and the disciples during the days following Jesus’ entry into Jerusalem: his betrayal, arrest, trial, death, and burial. How will you observe this week together as a family? You may want to share and provide spaces for young people to hear these stories at home to deepen their faith through their journey with Jesus.  A suggestion is to read again the stories found in the gospel of Matthew and invite exploration questions, being open to what young people may want to share and or wonder.
