Habitat Visitors October 16

On Sunday, October 16, Barbara Dunn, Executive Director and Gina Damiano, Corporate Development Officer of Paterson Habitat for Humanity, will join us for worship and a presentation afterwards. Homes have been built for more than 300 families in its thirty plus years of existence. Now concentrating on the extremely challenged fourth ward area of the city, Habitat’s goal is to build or transform one hundred additional homes in that area, creating a vibrant community.

High Mountain Presbyterian Church continues to support this program and donated $1500 in 2016. This is an opportunity to learn more about Habitat and the work it has done in neighboring Paterson. Please plan to join us.

2016 Presbytery Mission Study SurveyDeadline for Surveys is October 17

Dear Pastors or Moderators and Clerks of Session,
The Mission Study Team of the Presbytery of the Palisades needs your help.
We have been asked to develop a vision and plan for the next three to five years, one that takes into account input from a wide variety of people. That means we need to hear from members, friends and leaders of our congregations, fellowships and new church developments.
An online survey is one of the best (and easiest) ways to gather that input. Since we do not have mailing lists for your congregation, we are asking you to make sure that it gets distributed to your members before October 17. It is accessed through the email link below, has a simple password, and takes about 15 minutes to complete.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/MissionStudySurvey
Those who are not comfortable using computers may complete a paper version of the survey, which can be found here.  Perhaps you could plan a “Survey Sunday” in the next two weeks and invite the congregation to go online at a kiosk during coffee hour or fill in a paper copy.  (Paper copies should be mailed to the Presbytery office as soon as possible.)
Please send the survey link, along with this password:  Psalm23 (capital P, no spaces) to every member, friend, and leader for whom you have an email address, and encourage them to participate in shaping the future of the Presbytery of the Palisades.
Trusting that God has a plan for our future, one filled with hope, we sincerely thank you.   Elder Barkley Calkins and Rev. Samuel Weddington
Co-Chairs of the Mission Study Team.

Luke 18:1–8 (October 16) Psalm 145:1–5, 17–21 (November 6)
Luke 18:9–14 (October 23 Isaiah 65:17–25 (November 13)
Luke 19:1–10 (October 30) Colossians 1:11–20 (November 20)

During the months of October and November we will be exploring some of Jesus’ stories and parables as recorded in the gospel of Luke. These stories explore issues such as reaching out to others, healing, being persistent, and learning about prayer and hospitality. This is the time in the church year when children will learn more about what it means to be a disciple and to be part of the church. In this week’s focus Bible story (Luke 18:1-8) we will hear about a woman who didn’t give up when she was faced with a situation in which she must be persistent to have her rights respected. God is most concerned about justice – but most often it seems the world is not. This week’s story will help our group to understand what it means to pray and work for what is good and fair and right for all. They will learn and be encouraged by the woman’s example to be brave and persistent as they may face situations which are not fair within their own neighborhoods and school. I invite you to help us in the faith formation of your child by making a pause from your busyness during the week and listen to what God might be saying. Continue exploring the weeks focus Bible passages (listed here) together as a family.  As we prepare for leadership each week we will be praying for the several ministries of our church and for each child and youth in our group. We ask that you also include us in your prayers.  All children and youth are welcome to join us for Bible story time and activities on the 2nd floor of the church house after the time of conversation with the pastor in worship. Childcare is available for children 4 and under on the 2nd floor as well.

Prayers & Announcements

Announcements for the Sunday Worship service should be emailed to the church office.  If you would like the community to pray with you for a person or circumstance please call the office at 201-891-0511.
