Since the last one was such a success we are going to do it again this Sunday, November 20! Please bring enough to share and join us for fellowship and fun. There will be sign-up sheets in the Narthex.
Stewardship 2017
We asked the people who attended service last Sunday to share, in a few words, what they love about our church and why they support our church.
If you did not get a chance to come to church on Sunday, here’s an opportunity to write to Pastor Lou at revlouie@aol.com, and share your feelings about why you love this church and why you support the church. Thanks!
Ḟaithworks
On this last Sunday between the Season after Pentecost and the beginning of Advent, we step back to ground ourselves once again in the nature and purpose of the one God sent, Jesus the Christ, whose name and transformative efforts we are called to carry forward. At Ḟaithworks the focus Bible reading is Colossians 1:11–20. The opening of this text places us in the middle of a prayer of a loving leader of the Christian group in the city of Colossae. When the churches were just beginning, leaders would sendletters to Christian communities to encourage and offer teaching. Some of these letters were saved and eventually became part of our Bible. This Sunday we will hear part of a letter written to Christians who lived in Colossae. In our group, most children have formed an image of Jesus in their imaginations. This image has been, and will continue to be, shaped and influenced by the pictures, images, language, songs, and stories they experience both at home and at church. Older children who have attended church fairly regularly probably know Jesus as one who was born in a stable and as a teacher and healer who did surprising and amazing things. They may confuse the stories about Jesus with the stories or parables Jesus told. They may also be confused when they hear the name Jesus Christ. More than one child has assumed that Christ is Jesus’ last name! Through the description of Jesus in the letter to the Colossians, our youth will be encouraged to articulate their own understanding about who Jesus is, and to celebrate Jesus as the Christ of our faith. They will be helped to see that in Jesus we can see the spirit and image of God, the depth of God’s love and God’s surprising ways. We pray and hope that at our time together our youth will continue to grow in their understanding of the loving nature of God as seen through Jesus, and that their relationship with God would be deepened. Children will be excused from worship after their Conversation with Pastor. Childcare will be available for children 5 years and under in the 2nd floor classrooms.

Habitat Happenings
It was a very meaningful experience to have Barbara Dunn, Paterson Habitat Director and a new Habitat family with us Sunday October 16 to hear more about Habitat and its impact on the city of Paterson, just fifteen miles from the church. HMPC contributed $1500 to this program this year and has supported Habitat since its inception.
To find out about upcoming Habitat events, including Hammering for Habitat on November 5, go to www.patersonhabitat.org.
