As we continue listening to Jesus’ Sermon on the Mountain, in Matthew 5:13–20 Jesus tells his followers that they are like the salt, that preserves and adds flavor to the food. That they are the light that reveals what is hidden, allowing all to see. Jesus tells us that we are salt and light also as we seek to live as God’s people in the world. In the text from Matthew 5, youth will discover how they are uniquely gifted to share God’s peace, justice, and love. As we work together to understand the metaphors of salt and light in this section of the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus’ words can give young people permission to live what they already are, not just what they might become. They are active participants in this project of life as they live in God’s ways. Their light, our light should shine before others, not so that they can applaud our “piety,” but so that our works can direct others to give thanks and praise to God. God’s reign is not an imaginary place or a future promise; it is a present reality. We are God’s instruments of peace, reconciliation and lanterns illuminating the darkness of the world around us. With God’s help, we hope that our children and youth will hear this invitation of being the salt and light that God has created them to be. With the Spirit’s help, we offer our gifts and talents to extend the reach of God’s kingdom on Earth. Pp♥

All children and youth are welcome to join us for Bible story time and activities on the 2nd floor after the time of conversation with the pastor but we will come back to have Communion with the congregation. Childcare is available for children 4 and under on the 2nd floor as well.

Don’t forget to bring your Center for Food Action soup container “Banks.!!” Cans of soup are welcome too! We will collect them this Sunday, thanks!

My Personal Wishes

A few years ago, Linda Latham, Mary Guidetti McColl, Carol Margreither and Barbara Fernstrom met several times to develop a booklet, “My Personal Wishes at the Event of My Death”. This was to give those who were interested a guideline to express to their families how they would like everything to be handled after their death. This includes requests for funeral arrangements, memorial donations, organ donations, information for death certificate and newspapers, as well as location of important papers. If you would like a copy of this form, please contact Chris Buckley. It is suggested a copy be given to a family member for reference. We hope you will find this helpful.

*Assigned families can decide who will be reader. Please inform Chris who is reading one week before you are scheduled.  If you cannot be available when assigned, please switch with someone else and inform the office of this change.  Please check PM regularly to see the date of your assignment.  We need a few more volunteers for the listed duties.  If you can help in anyway, please call the office at 201-891-0511 and we can add you to the list.  Thank you for your kindness and generosity in assisting with the church service.
