Flower Chart

There is a flower chart in the hall of the Narthex near Pastor Lou’s office.

It is a large hanging calendar with dates of each Sunday in the month.  People may sign up for a certain date in order to give flowers in memory or in honor of someone.

Call Linda Latham at 973-423-1840 if you have any questions of if you

wish to place an order.

Assembly Line Successful

Thanks to all who participated after worship August 27. The weekend snack packs were assembled very quickly and the 48 ziplocks will be delivered to Center for Food Action this week by Tom Noonan and Bill Graham, our trusty delivery team. For those who would like to do more, the Center for Food Action will be assembling additional packs for distribution to schools in the fall.

It will take place on Monday, September 11th, the National Day of Service and Remembrance, from 3:30 pm – 5:30 pm at Lincoln Technical Institute, 70 McKee Drive, Mahwah. The minimum donation for each participant is $45 (children under 10 accompanied by an adult can pack free of charge). $45 will fund 10 snack packs for local children experiencing weekend food insecurity. Last year CFA distributed over 30,000 weekends snack packs. You can register/donate online: www.cfanj.org, or by phone, 201-569-1804 x25 or 27..

Thank You

A few months ago we said goodbye to Patricia Pastas who was our coordinator of children and youth education and activities.  We had run out of money needed to continue the program at that scale.  We wondered what would happen and how we would go forward with our commitments to children and youth.

At that time one family from the church stepped up with a challenge to the giving community here. They pledged $6000.00 over their regular support for the Children’s Education Ministry. They asked if we would seek other donors who would match their gift and thereby double the support.

So we launched the matching gift challenge. As of today the gift has been matched and more.   We are so very excited about your willingness to give financial support and pray for this ministry.  Some of you also have pledged your time and energy through the year to make this ministry happen.

Thank you so very much on behalf of everyone for your support and encouragement. The Children’s ministry will be directed by Iggy Rodriguez and she will supervise a team of helpers both paid and volunteers that will help to meet the needs of our youngest members.  Thank you for your generosity and your visible, tangible support.

“Let Your Faith Grow” Planting Campaign

Back in early 2015, HMPC undertook a complete property restoration including newly paved road, parking lot, sidewalks and lighting, just to name a few of the upgrades. We were required by the town to plant hundreds of trees throughout the church property. We offered our church members and friends the “Let Your Faith Grow” campaign, whereby anyone could purchase a tree to honor or memorialize a loved one, or to celebrate a birthday or special anniversary.  Each tree would become a named tree, to include such markings to reflect the buyer or honored individuals. The leadership of the church would like to remind you that trees are still available for purchase.  Landscape seating benches are also available.  The purchase of any tree or bench includes a dedication plaque.  Designed for every budget, this fundraiser allows you to help keep our property green, beautiful and growing into the future!  Please contact Pastor Lou or the church office at 201-891-0511 for more information.

High Mountain Church

Is Alive and Live

This past week I received a note from one of our church family that has been forced by illness to remain at home week after week. This past Sunday it occurred to her that she could tune into the church’s live broadcast on YouTube.  So she went to the web site and logged on to the channel and then she was thrilled to be able to share in the experience of worship in real time with us all.

Later that afternoon one of our regular attenders called to admit that they had had a long night on Saturday so when the alarm sounded on Sunday morning they hit the off button instead of the snooze. “I fell sound asleep and slept till 9:45. There was no way to make it to church on time.  So I decided to join the live broadcast”. “I was so thrilled not to miss any of our gatherings, even if they could not be here, the caller said”

So far, since the Live channel has gone up, we have had 55 people view those live or recorded services. It is exciting to hear how this kind of outreach can support our members and friends in their life, even if they can’t be here in person.

Thank you for your financial support of all of our ministries. These are the things we are called to be doing as we seek to be a blessing to those near and far.  Your gifts help to make all of this possible.

Pastor Lou

Faithworks

Our lesson will be based on the baptism of Jesus ( Mark 1:9-11) when the spirit descended like a dove on Jesus and the Father stated: ” You are my Son, the Beloved; with you I am well pleased. We will make handprints to symbolize the dove- the Holy Spirit.

Walk In Dinner Program September 30

We need to prepare food for 150 needy persons and serve it that day. Recipes and pans are available at church now. Cooks need to drop off HOT DISHES at HMPC at 2 pm. Servers will meet at Iglesias, 320 Main Street Paterson at 3 pm and should be finished by 6:30. Please sign up on Sundays so we can plan accordingly. If you need further information, please contact Barbara Fernstrom, bfernstrom1@gmail.com, 973-271-3389. Thanks for considering assisting with this Mission Team Project.

Tabs

The time is coming when our collection of soda can tabs must be delivered

to The Ronald McDonald House in Long Branch, NJ.  We have appreciated the

help of the congregation in assisting children who have cancer.  The Ronald McDonald House offers a home and support, so families can stay by their seriously ill children.  Tom Noonan

and Bill Graham will be taking them down in the name of the High Mountain Presbyterian Church very soon.  Again, many thanks for everyone’s help.
